Is it wrong to Airbrush Models?

Photographs are not always facts, and that’s certainly the case in the modelling industry. Airbrushing, also known as retouching, has often been criticised in the media, and there are plenty of reasons why.

It can often set expectations too high for people, resulting in people who getting insulted for their ‘average’ looks, and this is especially the case in school. Boys and girls may think that real ‘good looking’ women and men look like the models they see in magazines and it is not the case. Should heavy photographic manipulation be allowed in a magazine considering the problems it can cause?

It’s a topical debate, and the photographer will want his photo to look perfect, which can often result in the image being deceitful. Photoshop can really change the look of a person, and virtually anything is possible today with digital editing, but at times it may just be beneficial to photograph an individual as they are, without the glossy magazine airbrushing.
